About

Tie-in Talks are events held for the sake of introducing you to local vendors and businesses that tie in to the exhibits on view. In this case, the essence of our current exhibit, “Mended,” is to engage with audiences on the tangible healing effects of reparative work. Well, who better to speak on this than experts on the topic?

Join us on May 1st for an engaging and interactive talk with Tony and Jill Whitfield, founders of “Y-Not Sharp: Professional Sharpening Services.”

About the Talk:
“Mended” is an exhibit focused on highlighting the importance of reparative work as well as the healing effects of both the process and result earned through repair. “Y-Not Sharp” is a perfect example of how this premise can bleed into areas outside of the art world. Speakers Tony and Jill will be here to teach you all about what they do, how they started, and why you should care. If you’re ready to learn how to stay sharp on the art of sharpening, then we invite you to join us for an engaging discussion outlining the difference that dull makes!

 About the Speaker:
Tony and Jill Whitfield are a husband and wife duo that run “Y-Not Sharp” together. While Tony sharpens anything from kitchen knives to salon sheers to actual swords, Jill handles the logistics for everything else. This wonderful team makes appearances at various local establishments and events in the efforts of helping customers understand how to take care of their own utensils and STOP people from throwing away perfectly fixable wares.

If there’s time after the talk, Tony will gladly sharpen small knives and sheers on the spot! So don’t forget to grab those dull utensils you’re not sure what to do with, wrap them up in a thick towel, and bring them on over for a refresh.
