About

Welcome to the North Georgia New Play Festival!

This fall, we invite you to join us at Woodstock Arts for five world-premiere plays that will be developed right under our very own roof! Attend staged readings of these brand-new works and stick around after each show for a conversation with the playwrights and creative teams,  where you can discuss their process, offer your insights into the shows, and ask questions as well! This is your opportunity to cultivate and grow new works with the playwrights – and see something you’ve never seen before!

Submissions Information –

Please note – plays are only being accepted from Georgia-based playwrights. Submissions will be open from June 14th to July 31st. Playwrights will be notified by August 5th of acceptance at the latest.

Across the page you will see a link for submissions. We are looking for the following information:

  • Name
  • Contact Information (this will not be shared outside the organization)
  • Play Title
  • Casting Needs
  • Statement of Purpose (i.e. what are you as a playwright looking for from this process?)
  • Any previous production history that may need to be known.
  • What are you looking for in a director?

Submission Requirements –

All plays are to be over an hour in length (no one-act/short-form pieces), and should ideally be within the PG – PG-13 range, though any plays rated “R” will still be given full consideration.

We will be accepting four plays by playwrights as well as one play by a student (high school or college) playwright for the festival.

One play per playwright.

Musicals are accepted, but may require further logistical assistance from the producing organization.

Compensation

Winning playwrights (over the age of 18) will be given a stipend of $100. There is no submission fee.

Production Process

Selected plays will receive a week of table-work and rehearsal with a director hired by Woodstock Arts, and a cast assembled from the play’s casting requirements, culminating in a staged-reading (classic style of chairs on stage, music stands for active readers) to be presented over the weekend of the 26th -28th of September.

Rehearsals will take place at Woodstock Arts within various rehearsal and conference rooms, starting on Monday, September 22nd and going through Thursday, September 25th. Rehearsals will be in the 6:30 p.m – 10 p.m range. Playwrights are requested and encouraged to be at these rehearsals, and use the process to refine their play in as full as they would like.

Performance –

Performances will be staged readings, presented with actors on stage, minimal blocking, and music stands (provided by Woodstock Arts). There will be a brief talk-back session//Q&A with the audience following the readings.
