WHO IS BALSAM RANGE?

Balsam Range stands as one of the most celebrated and innovative groups in modern bluegrass. Formed in 2007 in the mountains of western North Carolina, this powerhouse quintet has become a defining force in the genre — blending rich harmonies, compelling songwriting, and world-class musicianship into a sound that’s all their own.

With 13 critically acclaimed albums and an impressive collection of IBMA awards — including the coveted Entertainer of the Year honor — Balsam Range has captivated fans across the country. From sold-out theaters and major festivals to multiple appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, they’ve built a reputation as a must-see live act.

Their sound moves effortlessly between bluegrass, country, gospel, and folk, always anchored by heartfelt lyrics and masterful playing. Lead vocalist Buddy Melton, an IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year winner, and bassist Tim Surrett, IBMA’s Bass Player of the Year, lead a band of all-star talent — now joined by mandolin virtuoso Alan Bibey, a two-time IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year and nine-time SPBGMA winner.

From chart-topping hits like “Blue Collar Dreams,” “Angel Too Soon,” and “That’s What the Years Do” to genre-defying collaborations with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra Ensemble, Balsam Range continues to push bluegrass forward while honoring its roots.

With music that resonates deeply and a stage presence that lights up every room, Balsam Range is more than a band — they’re an experience.
