September 12 @ 7:30 pm

About

WHY YOU SHOULD COME:

If you love the smooth sound of a saxophone, the energy of a live big band, or the timeless charm of swing and jazz classics — this concert is for you. “The Suite Life: Ellington, Basie, and More” brings the elegance and electricity of big band jazz front and center in this unforgettable night under the stars. Led by saxophone legend Sam Skelton, the GSO Jazz Orchestra breathes new life into iconic jazz suites by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and others. From bold brass to smooth swing, this is big band jazz at its most stylish and soul-stirring.

Whether you’re a longtime jazz enthusiast or simply curious about the golden age of American music, GSO Jazz promises an evening of rhythm, soul, and timeless sophistication.

WHO IS GSO JAZZ?

The Georgia Symphony Orchestra Jazz! ensemble is on a mission to break down access barriers and ensure that the transformative power of music reaches every corner of our community. Through engaging performances, world-class education programs, and meaningful community outreach, GSO Jazz! creates impact far beyond the concert stage.

We at Woodstock Arts are thrilled to partner with GSO Jazz! as part of our Lantern Series, bringing this unforgettable night of big band brilliance to our community — and helping to kick off GSO’s landmark 75th anniversary season in style.

Under the direction of Sam Skelton, GSO Jazz! delivers a potent mix of tradition and innovation, performing both new age and classic big band charts with breathtaking style and passion. Expect a show that’s as much about joy as it is about artistry — with a little swagger, a lot of swing, and a deep reverence for the greats.
