About

Welcome to the North Georgia New Play Festival!

This fall, we invite you to join us at Woodstock Arts for five world-premiere plays that will be developed right under our very own roof! Attend staged readings of these brand-new works and stick around after each show for a conversation with the playwrights and creative teams,  where you can discuss their process, offer your insights into the shows, and ask questions as well! This is your opportunity to cultivate and grow new works with the playwrights – and see something you’ve never seen before!

Performance –

Performances will be staged readings, presented with actors on stage, minimal blocking, and music stands (provided by Woodstock Arts). There will be a brief talk-back session//Q&A with the audience following the readings.

Shows –

Holy Chicken Sandwich by Kira Rockwell –
People are camped out on the eve of the opening of the most popular fried chicken chain, and excitement is in the air. But the team is noticing that things keep going missing, contestants are drawing lines in the parking lot, and the universe is cracking open like an egg. Jade, the newly appointed manager is trying to hold it all together, but there’s that chicken who keeps showing up and bawking at her…
Cheer! by Bella Smith –
Rated R for intense language and scenarios
A surreal play about a group of feral, power-hungry cheerleaders as they fight to become the top of the pyramid. CHEER! is a passionate look at the messy sides of girlhood, of growing up in a competitive environment, and what it feels like to take control.
The Scariest Thing To See In The Woods by Julia Byrne  –
Rated R for intense language and scenarios
A team of optimistic young people – each with a specific skill set – journey to the woods to build an ideal society, but what they discover may tear it all down.
Showing by Gabrielle Sinclair-Compton –
Rate PG 13 for language
A pregnant woman’s baby’s gender reveal party is easy – just make it to the cake and cut it up before your family, your sense of self, your friendships, your trust that your baby is safe, and even the cake itself falls to pieces. A love letter to a baby from the future, about the terrible transformative power of food, family, hope, and science fiction.
The Common Room Play Or What We Talk About by Anna Schwartz-
Rated PG 13 for language and heavy topics
College is a wild experience to step into, there’s classes and grades and a whole new landscape, not to mention new people. And some of them are pretty cute? Should I talk to him? Talk to her? THE COMMON ROOM PLAY OR WHAT WE TALK ABOUT is an exploration of identity, and everything that means, for a group of brand-new college girls in their dorm as they navigate school, sexuality, and the disappointments and triumphs that come with growing up.
