CLASS DESCRIPTION

Do you want to get into art, but aren’t sure where to start? Don’t really want to get supplies without knowing if you’ll like a new medium? This is your chance to try before you buy! Each week we’ll make a project using different materials and different techniques, so that you can get a feel for what you enjoy most. Options include acrylics, abstract pouring, watercolors, dry pastels, polymer clay, resin casting, block printing, miniatures, and jewelry techniques. (Class interest will determine the specific mediums and projects that we do.) 
 
Class space is limited.

Allison Frink

Allison has been creating since she was old enough to hold a crayon. She earned a BFA in Animation and has been teaching and organizing community art classes since 2006. She loves trying new mediums, learning new skills, and sharing that knowledge. Current favorites include watercolors, drawing, jewelry, and fiber arts.

Ms. Jetta is a passionate art instructor dedicated to nurturing the creative talents of young artists! Jetta is an aspiring secondary school teacher and senior at Kennesaw State University double majoring in journalism and theater. Jetta has previously worked art and theater camps at Woodstock Arts, as well as theater and songwriting camps at the Alliance Theatre. In her free time, she can be caught reading, painting, dancing, or hiking.

Each week we’ll make a different clay sculpture projects using handbuilding techniques. Once our pieces are dried and fired, we’ll add color with glazes. We’re going to get messy, so wear play clothes and tie back long hair if you have it!

Monday Clay Community will run for 6 weeks with access to weekly open studio opportunities to practice skills. Lessons will include exploring the Kurinuki carving technique, a Holiday serving dish, Artistic bowl and Snowman sculpture. Skills will be taught in a way that allows options for project outcomes so that both beginners and advanced students will enjoy. Join the Clay Community at the Kish Center!

When Heather isn’t staying up too late obsessing about her own art projects, she can be found working with her own Photography Company, exploring the beautiful outdoors with her family, or having fun with her children.

She has taught at Jan Dempsey Community Art Center, Jules Collins Smith Museum, and in various school systems. She loves working at, and managing, the Kish Center for Pottery and Ceramics!

This is a 6 week class for students with or without knowledge of pottery. It’s going to be based in the material, exploring shapes on the wheel, and by hand. Getting in contact with wild clay and principles of self processing the material. It’s going to have an approach to South American pottery as well as contemporary pottery using color glazes and underglazes. We will center the class around making a mug with a handle and the chance of adding a handmade figure. The process will be throwing a piece, trimming it, adding handles, glazing it and firing.

I’m an Argentinian potter working and living in Georgia since 2015. I’m a production potter, I work with an electric and a kicking wheel, processing my own clay and some of the glazes. I’ve been always very curious about different cultures and their approach to ceramics. I’ve been lucky to have had a lot of mentors and teachers from different fields of the ceramic world. Needle felting lets you make amazing flat objects and sculptures by stabbing loose wool with a special needle. We’ll make a different project each week, so you’ll go home with lots of fiber art to keep or share. This session has new projects, so returning students are welcome. (Warning: Felting needles are sharp! We’ll be careful, but you’ll probably poke yourself at least once.) Supplies are included.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Let’s slow down and take and in-depth look at American Cursive Handwriting using pointed pen with dip ink. This classic form of lettering brings an unlimited amount of possibility and beauty to writing. Students will practice the classic letter forms and learn flourishing, as well. You’ll be able to take your “scribe skills” and apply them to cards, envelopes, gift tags, letter writing, and so much more! Six, 90-minute sessions will be included in this introductory course.

Denise Leak is a former teacher and lover of letters. She has been teaching handwriting for more than 30 years. She began her calligraphy journey in 2016 with the Birmingham Calligraphy Guild in a class taught by Heather Held from Canada. The flourishing and playfulness of the art form captured her heart. She is a member of IAMPETH (The International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting) as well as the Atlanta Calligraphy Guild, “Friends of the Alphabet,” and currently resides here in Woodstock, Georgia.
