The Visual Arts Education Manager will cultivate initiatives and programming to inspire the next generation and grow a culture of continued learning through the arts within our community. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO HERE:
The Visual Arts Education Manager will lead visual arts education initiatives and oversee all aspects of visual arts classes, camps, studio operations, and related educational programming at Woodstock Arts. Reporting to the Education Director, this role collaborates frequently with the Visual Arts Department, as well as with other staff, teaching artists, and volunteers, to create a cohesive and inspiring learning environment. The Visual Arts Education Manager will help shape a welcoming community of students of all ages, where creativity, curiosity, and skill-building are nurtured through thoughtful curriculum and meaningful experiences. By improving processes, strengthening programs, and supporting the launch of new initiatives aligned with the organization’s strategic plan, the Visual Arts Education Manager will play a key role in expanding community impact and deepening lifelong engagement with the arts.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Arts Education Initiatives & Programming [35%]

  • Work closely with staff to lead the development and execution of education initiatives to advance, engage, and grow the community’s culture and economy through arts education. Arts Education initiatives and programming include, but are not limited to, classes, camps, workshops, and exhibits in the Visual Arts, working with local artists as arts educators, as well as partnerships with schools and local organizations.
  • Design and direct educational programs such as classes, camps, workshops & exhibits in the Visual Arts.
  • Develop season schedule for all Visual Arts Education Programming. Maintain the calendar for art education events & programs. 

Management [40%]

  • Hire, contract, train, and supervise (in consultation with staff) all Visual Arts Education personnel including, but not limited to instructors, contractors, etc. 
  • Work with the Events & Volunteer Manager to train and mentor educational program volunteers (Visionaries). 
  • Facilitate clear communications throughout the execution of events with staff, volunteers, students, and parents.
  • Analyze and collect data in order to update databases, document statistics, attendance, quality control, and budgets. Maintain systems such as registration, curriculum development, budgets for education programming, scheduling, student and/or parent communication, etc.
  • Coordinate set-up/tear-down, cleaning, repairs, lighting, as well as the necessary volunteers and staff for education events (classes, exhibits, etc). Manage visitor flow, safety rules & policies, and ensure necessary supplies are available for all arts education programming.

Community Engagement [20%]

  • Assist with events organization-wide, as well as providing opportunities for educational outreach and community programs for all age groups. 
  • Work closely with the Marketing Manager to promote education programming for schools, families, and general audiences including content for press releases, advertisements, communications, as well as print and digital media.
  • Leverage partnerships to provide additional educational/outreach components to projects when appropriate
  • Assist with grant writing and development opportunities related to art education.

Other Duties as Assigned [5%]

 

YOU WILL LIKELY BE:

Bring a foundation in arts, education, or nonprofit work.

You likely hold a bachelor’s degree, ideally in the arts, arts education, or a related field, and/or have experience working in a nonprofit or community-based environment. Equivalent professional experience is also valued.

 

Are comfortable with everyday digital tools and eager to learn new ones.

You’re familiar with Office, social media platforms, and emerging media tools. Experience with Coursestorm is a plus, but not required – we’re happy to support learning on the job. Familiarity with WordPress and/or Elementor is preferred, though not mandatory.

 

Excel at working with people.

You naturally bring a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive presence when interacting with visitors, students, parents, artists, and collaborators. You enjoy helping people navigate new spaces and experiences, and you understand that positive, thoughtful engagement is central to arts education and community work.

 

Thrive in organized, multi-tasking environments.

You’re comfortable juggling multiple projects, programs, or events at once and can keep logistics running smoothly behind the scenes. Coordinating registrations, schedules, and program details, and ensuring classes and events start on time, feels energizing rather than overwhelming.

 

Communicate clearly, thoughtfully, and accessibly.

You’re able to write and speak about art and educational programming in ways that are engaging and easy to understand. You value strong communication with students and parents, and you’re skilled at translating complex logistics into clear, concise messages.

 

Maintain a positive, solutions-oriented mindset.

You approach challenges with flexibility, professionalism, and a steady, can-do attitude, even when plans shift or situations become unpredictable.

You will also participate in events that further the organization as a whole, particularly surrounding marketing, fundraising, and critical events and will participate in events that all of staff are able to lead, an example being serving as “Staff on Duty” for events. 


 

Weekends and evenings will be required for this job.
