About

Set to enchanting music and textured with a brilliant book, these classic stories from the Brothers Grimm shine in an interconnected story, with beloved twists in this modern-classic by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Follow the story of a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results

Directed by Artistic Director Zach Stolz, and re-imagined to reflect the folklore and music of Appalachian history, this production will take this beloved story from the forests of Bavaria to the Blue Ridge, putting it in our very own backyard.

WHO IS THIS SHOW FOR?

A show for anyone who loves a classic fairy tale re-imagined, twisted up, bounced around and seen in brand new ways. Filled with characters brimming with sincerity, vulnerability, joy, and deep humanity, INTO THE WOODS is a show for those who want to get lost in a story, laugh, maybe even cry, and remember that feeling of community that can draw us together. Composer Stephen Sondheim said “we are all responsible for each other,” and through familiar stories told a-new we see that with crystal clear clarity.

And of course, for those who love Sondheim.
