About
In 1913, Leo and Lucille Frank are a newlywed Jewish couple struggling to make a life in the old red hills of Marietta, Georgia. When Leo is accused of the murder of thirteen-year-old Mary Phagan it propels them into an unimaginable test of faith, humanity, justice and devotion. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor’s false testimony seal Leo’s fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience and, his wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.
Presented in concert format, Parade promises to be a show you cannot look away from, both intense and hopeful in it’s story, Parade is a show that asks us to look at some of the darkest moments in our shared history and in the power, and dangers, of faith, family, and community.
WHO IS THIS SHOW FOR?
Parade is a complex and deep story – one part a love story between Frank and Lucille as created for the purposes of the story, another part true-crime investigation – with trademark “gotcha” moments of revelation and interweaving storylines and memories being unearthed. It is a show about history, and the present moment, and how those two moments meet one another, the sacred and the nostalgic, the honorable and the profane. For those who want to be swept away in a powerful score, with a book written by Georgia playwright Alfred Uhry, this is a show that we are geographically poised to tackle with powerful poignancy.
