Paulina Vargas is a collage artist who utilizes her medium as a chance for personal storytelling. By using methods such as staining paper with coffee and using elements like roots, flowers, and leaves within the collage, Vargas aims to create a sense of both symbolic and emotional depth within her work.
This newest project, Alma, further presents a visual journey through two artistic approaches, each representing sparks of identity. Her more surrealist works are designed to explore the soul-stirring depths of the mind while her other, more personal pieces, reflect the artist’s cultural roots, memory, heritage, and origin. With this duality at the forefront, Vargas’s collages reflect how self-identity and ones’ soul are formed through layered experiences. Through this blending of reality and imagination, the artist invites audiences to consider her art a space for introspection and transformation.
Opening Reception for “Alma” will be held in the Reeves Gallery & Education Studio on March 13th starting at 6:00pm.
