ABOUT THE ARTIST

Robin Masek

I believe that every artist is self-taught as far as their style and technique is concerned.
On the other hand, Art Education is important because it exposes you to so many ideas
and philosophies. It allows you to recognize what you like in art and why you like it.
Also, there are tools you need to learn in order to create art.
When I started my formal education atOhio State University, I learned the basics of

composition and the elements involved in creating art. I studied the great masters and
the artists who changed the art world. I studied their techniques and their philosophies. I
looked at a huge array of paintings by a variety of contemporary artists. I created a large
collection of paintings of my own.
I have been obsessed with horses for as long as I can remember. I see them in my
mind’s eye. I dream about them and when I paint, the horse is my favorite subject.
I grew up in the Atlanta, Georgia area. In 1983, I obtained a BFA from Ohio State
University. After I graduated, I began painting horses from life. In 1989 I moved to Palm
Bay, Florida. During my years in Florida, I entered many outdoor art shows, won several
awards including “Best in Show” at Equi-Fest in Lake Helen, Florida. One of my equine
paintings was purchased by the Florida Museum of Art in Deland, Florida where it
hangs in their Permanent Collection Gallery.
I have always wanted to paint the desert, and so in 2014 I moved to Nevada to paint
wild horses. After three years I moved back to my hometown of Woodstock, Ga. I still
love painting horses, but I have begun working to learn more watercolor techniques and
plein air painting.
