As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical musical adventure.

This Teen Spotlight Production is an educational theatre program open exclusively to teenage performers. Accepted students will experience the full play production process from auditions to performances as part of our Mainstage Theatre Season led by a team of theatre professionals and educators.

Our Spotlight program is funded through tuition. If cast, there is a $350 participation fee for all actors. As this is part of our educational programming, needs-based scholarships are available. If you would like to be considered for a full or partial scholarship for this Spotlight production, please complete an application form HERE prior to your scheduled audition time.

Auditions will be in-person on Sunday, October 9th starting at 2:30 pm. Video audition submissions will be accepted until Sunday the 9th at 8:30 pm. You can send your Video Submission to kyle@woodstockarts.org. Please slate (introduce yourself) on camera before you begin your audition. (NOTE: you will still need to fill out this online audition form along with a video submission.)

In-person callbacks will take place on Wednesday, October 12th at 6:00 pm. Further information about callbacks will be emailed separately after all scheduled auditions take place. You may still be considered for roles if you do not receive an invitation to, or can not attend, callbacks. Final casting decisions will be made following callbacks and all who auditioned will be notified, whether or not they are cast.

Rehearsals are scheduled weekly on Thursdays from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The final week before performances, additional and longer rehearsals will be added: a 9AM – 5PM rehearsal on Saturday and daily weekday rehearsals from 6-10PM as we will be running the entire show with full technical elements.

There will be no rehearsal on Thanksgiving (November 24th). Each actor may not be called to every rehearsal and conflicts will be honored as best we can. Every actor will be called to all tech week rehearsals and performances.

We would like you to prepare a one-minute monologue and 32 bars of a song to perform. Please download any backing music you intend to use, as you may not have a stable wifi connection during auditions.

When considering your pieces, pick audition material based on what you as a performer can do, not based on which roles you would like to play. We’d like to hear a song that showcases your vocal range and see strong character work and motivated choices within your monologue.

You are welcome to select your own material, or can use the selections at this Dropbox LINK if you need help choosing a piece. The provided sheet music for these options contains notes about the cut of the songs and music timestamps for reference. You are welcome to select up to two of the provided sides to perform.

Please email kyle
@woodstockarts.org with any questions.
