Home Grown Artist Talk: Chase King and Dorothy Reavis

Tuesday, August 16 at 6:30pm

ABOUT

Local artists featured in our Home Grown: Artists from the Peach State exhibit will speak about the inspiration, process, and the context behind their work on display. The illustrated talks provide an opportunity for artists to share their artwork and ideas to the public and offer insight into the exhibition as a whole. Be part of the conversation, express your thoughts and ideas, or simply sit back and enjoy the discussion.

This event is free to the public and takes place on the front porch of the Reeves House. (In the case of inclement weather, the talk will be moved inside)

FEATURED ARTIST

CHASE KING

lives and works in Woodstock. He began painting and drawing at the age of sixteen shortly after losing his mother to a malignant brain tumor. As unfortunate as that was, the loss in many ways triggered a visual expression that continues to inform his work today. Chase is an intuitive painter who finds subject matter in his everyday surroundings, who through his handling of the paint and choice of colors, transforms into mysterious, sometimes eerie, tableaus.

Since receiving his BFA in painting and drawing from Kennesaw State University, Chase’s work has been exhibited and collected throughout the United States and abroad. With all of the support from friends, family, and colleagues, Chase has become a determined contemporary artist whose career is certainly one to watch and collect.

DOROTHY REAVIS is a high school art teacher and artist in Woodstock who enjoys incorporating classical realism into contemporary compositions. She finds the technical skill and quality of realism to be an encouraging challenge, while contemporary styles are playful and liberating. Much of her work is not limited to one medium – she enjoys merging a variety of media.
