About the Talk:
Artist Talks provide an opportunity for artists to share their work and passions with the public, as well as offer insight into the exhibition as a whole. Be part of the conversation, express your thoughts and ideas, ask your burning questions, or simply sit back and enjoy the discussion. This is an opportunity to learn about the speaker’s artistic processes as well as their other projects!
About the Speaker:
As both a Georgia native and SCAD graduate, Abigail Willett is best known for her multidisciplinary work with southern roots and womanhood at the forefront.
“I aim to create conversations surrounding the role of southern women through my work, while also engaging with women from similar backgrounds and providing images where they can find themselves.”
Currently on display is Willett’s “Interstate Woman” painting. And while her bold color choices draw viewers in, they stay for the thoughtful underlying themes. This artist doesn’t hold back from speaking up about what she believes in and through her art, Willett has created a visual commentary on how southern imagery has affected her, especially as a woman.
Join us for an engaging (and potentially very relatable) conversation with artist Abigail Willett on Thursday, June 12th as we confront stereotypes on southern femininity with art!
