Woodstock Arts engages the community with relevant art experiences every day. From its grassroots origins as a family theater, the organization has grown into a vibrant, multi- disciplinary arts center in Downtown Woodstock, GA. With thriving departments in theater, visual arts, education, and a dynamic concert series, Woodstock Arts continues to expand its impact. We are seeking a visionary Visual Arts Director (VAD) to lead the strategy, programming, and operations of our visual arts department.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Visual Arts Director (VAD) oversees all aspects of the visual arts department, including curatorial leadership, strategic planning, and operational excellence. Reporting to the Executive Director, the VAD is a key leader in advancing the mission of Woodstock Arts by delivering high-quality visual arts programming while supporting a collaborative, inclusive, and thriving organizational culture. The VAD will work with staff, the Board, and community stakeholders to ensure the growth and success of visual arts initiatives, including the Reeves House Visual Arts Center, the Kish Center for Ceramics & Pottery, public art projects, and other innovative programs.
It should be noted that as the organization continues to expand, so too will this job description as capacity allows.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are current programs and projects that the VAD will coordinate:
STRATEGIC DIRECTION AND VISION (30%)
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team to define and implement the strategic vision for visual arts at Woodstock Arts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs.
• Oversee the programmatic success of the visual arts department, including exhibitions, events, and initiatives that catalyze curiosity and foster belonging within the community.
• Play an active role in the leadership team, contributing to cross-departmental strategy and decision-making to ensure cohesive execution of organizational priorities.
• Provide input on facilities and event needs related to the visual arts, collaborating with the management team for execution.
• Develop and manage the department’s budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support strategic objectives.
CURATORIAL EXCELLENCE AND EXHIBIT MANAGEMENT (30%)
• Lead the curation and execution of three to four exhibitions annually, showcasing a mix of national, regional, and local artists.
• Oversee all aspects of exhibit planning and installation (with assistance from Exhibit Manager), including artist communications, shipping, volunteer coordination, and content creation for wall labels and educational materials.
• Maintain high standards of artistic excellence and innovation, positioning Woodstock Arts as a leader in the regional arts community.
• Collaborate with the Exhibit Manager to ensure seamless logistics and operations for exhibitions while maintaining ultimate accountability for outcomes.
• Supervise the installation team of staff and volunteers to ensure exhibitions are executed efficiently and effectively. This includes volunteer recruitment and training.
• Ensure all logistics, goals, and details are communicated well to the entire staff for enhanced communication and collaboration. This includes (but is not limited to) volunteer needs, staffing requirements, marketing details in a timely manner, etc.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, ADMINISTRATION, AND PROGRAMMING (20%)
• Develop and implement audience-building strategies to broaden the reach of visual arts programming, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
• Design and oversee visual arts programs and events that engage and attract audiences and encourage participation in the arts.
• Integrate visual arts programming with organizational membership initiatives, creating exclusive events and experiences that highlight visual arts offerings.
• Coordinate with marketing and education teams to amplify the impact of visual arts programs and reach new audiences.
• Ensure all staff, volunteers, and contractors are recruited, hired, and trained. Process, track and reconcile all Reeves House accounts payable, including payroll.

COMMUNITY NETWORKING AND RELATIONSHIPS (15%)
• Cultivate relationships with local businesses, artists, museums, and galleries to position Woodstock Arts as a leader in the metro Atlanta arts scene.
• Build partnerships with regional and national arts organizations, galleries, and museums to enhance the reputation, partnership, and reach of Woodstock Arts.
• Actively participate in fundraising efforts, collaborating with the development team to secure support for visual arts programming.
• Serve as a representative of Woodstock Arts in the broader community, attending events, building connections, and advocating for the organization’s mission.
• Foster a robust network of artists and cultural organizations to attract high-quality exhibits and partnerships.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED [5%]
WORK SCHEDULE
Various work hours will be scheduled on an ongoing basis. Early mornings, weekends, and evenings will be required for this job. While there is a regular office flow and weekly patterns, a healthy amount of autonomy will be provided to pair with responsibilities accomplished effectively.

• Education and Experience
• Bachelors Degree with experience related to gallery operations, visual arts initiatives,
and/or non-profit experience.
• Familiarity with G Suite, Microsoft Suite and other emerging media.
• Knowledge in Square, Spektrix, WordPress preferred, but not required.
• Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping and lifting is needed. It should be noted that the VAD may need to lift heavy objects.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The VAD will also participate in events that further the organization as a whole, particularly surrounding marketing, fundraising, and critical events. The VAD will also be utilized to disperse pressure amongst staff. For instance, being the “Staff on duty” for events.
